We studied the book Conscious Discipline and were able to have some guest speakers to help us better understand this idea. What follows is documentation of our meetings throughout the year and what was discussed during those meetings.

January 2013Our first meeting of the new year wrapped up our challenging behavior topic. We discussed a few chapters we read in the Conscious Discipline book, noting the importance of listening. We also looked at how this topic overall has benefited us in our teacher and personal lives. All of the participants took a suvey of what they would like to begin studing this next series and looked at some of the book options. We had a raffle to end off our year and participants won Conscious Discipline prizes.

July 2012July's meeting covered chapter 1 from Dr. Becky Bailey's book Conscious Discipline. Chapter 1 is titled "Composure" and discusses techniques that help teachers maintain self control and reduce stress.
One of the quotes we discussed from the chapter was, "You are never upset for the reason you think you are." This prompted us to talk about times where we have been upset and reflect on what was really causing the stress. |
June 2012Integration Station, located in Centerville, Ohio, was the site for the June meeting. Integration Station is a sensory gym where parents can have access to the same equipment as occupational therapists. There are 8 private rooms that can be customized with a variety of equipment to meet each child's needs.
